This beautiful mother Red-shouldered Hawk is resting and protecting her egg. She is in the Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary at Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida, unable to fly. This photo captures the scene of an adventurous night, bivvying out by the glacial lake under the majestic peak of Cerro Torre. The photo was captured on the 1st January 2015 in Patagonia, Argentina, and what a way to celebrate the new year! I think the photo shows an alternative view of travel, sleeping in amazing landscapes under the stars making the most of all 24 hours of the day. One of the most memorable nights of my New York trip was spent waiting for the sun to set and light to fade for the shot I had pictured in my head. Temperatures dropped as low as -8°C which made operating the camera very difficult and my waiting family very impatient. ?Got the shot?? was shouted from behind me and after 40 minutes of waiting, with the click of one button I was beyond pleased to turn around and reply, ?Yep, got the shot?.
